USCIS Extends Green Card Validity Extension for Certain Lawful Permanent Residents
Certain Green Cards will be extended for 36 months pending a Form I-90 filing
Earlier today, USCIS announced that would be extending certain permanent resident cards (the "Green Card" or Form I-551) for 36 months while renewal application (Form I-90) is pending (as opposed to the current 24 month extension period). For example, if an employee presents a Green Card with an expiration date of 9/1/2024 and a Form I-797C showing Form I-90 filing, the new expiration date would be 9/1/2027.
USCIS stated that the change was effective on September 10, 2024 and that it began printing amended receipt notices on the same. They further stated that increased Form I-90 processing times are the cause for this extension period increase.
