Reminder: I-9 and E-Verify Requirements Remain in Effect During Natural Disasters
USCIS advised in recently published guidance that Form I-9 and Employment Eligibility Requirements remain in effect for areas impacted by natural disasters, such as the 2023 Hawaii wildfire.
Employees may visit USCIS's Immigration Relief in Emergencies or Unforeseen Circumstances page for document guidance and I-9 resources available when impacted by natural disasters.
Employees with lost, stolen, or damaged documents may present receipts for those documents that are acceptable for up to 90 days from the date of hire. During this 90-day period, the employee is required to furnish the original replacement document or an alternative Form I-9 document that meets acceptable document criteria. It is important to note that E-Verify cannot be run on receipts.
