I-9 Form Set to Expire
On August 31, 2019, the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form that has been in circulation since July 2017 is designated to expire.
Until new information is released on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' I-9 Central site regarding a new I-9 Form, employers should continue using the current version.
In March 2019, USCIS prepared for expiration by establishing a 60-day comment period regarding its revisionary plans. Per the comments received in that time period, USCIS extended the comment period until July 6, 2019. It is possible that the deadline will be extended again if this second round of comments proves to be extensive.
It is recommended that employers continue monitoring this process regarding possible changes to the I-9 Form, the Handbook for Employers (M-274) and all associated timelines.
